The short answer

For most people, the Samsung Galaxy F16 5G (6GB + 128GB, ₹13,999) is the one to buy. It has the only AMOLED screen among our picks, and Samsung lists security updates for it until 31 October 2030. If gaming matters more, get the Infinix Note 50x 5G (8GB + 128GB, ₹14,999) for its much faster chip. For heavy use outdoors, the realme P3x 5G (6GB + 128GB, ₹12,999) gives you a 6,000mAh battery, a 45W charger in the box and IP69 water protection.

This guide is for anyone with about ₹15,000 for a new 5G phone. That might be your first smartphone, one for a parent, or simply a reliable daily phone for UPI, WhatsApp, YouTube and some gaming. Every pick is on sale in India right now, and the normal selling price of the variant we name is ₹15,000 or less.

Here’s how we chose. Specs come from the brands’ own pages where we could reach them, and from launch reports where we couldn’t. Prices come from Flipkart and were cross-checked against price trackers. We also kept in mind the questions that come up at Mobivault, our founder Lokesh Rathore’s phone shop in Bhopal, when people shop in this range: how long the battery lasts, how long updates continue, whether 5G will work and whether a charger is in the box. We haven’t tested these phones ourselves, so this is a research-based guide.

We checked prices on 11 October 2026. They are Flipkart selling prices without bank-card offers. Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale started on 9 October 2026. For four of the phones, the price is in line with what price trackers recorded before the sale. The HMD Vibe 2’s ₹11,999 is a sale price, so we also give HMD’s regular price for it. Prices may change once the sale ends.

Our picks

#1 Best overall

Samsung Galaxy F16 5G (6GB + 128GB)

  • 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED
  • Dimensity 6300
  • 5,000mAh · 25W
  • Security updates till Oct 2030

This is the easiest phone to recommend at this budget. No other pick has an AMOLED screen or a listed ultra-wide camera, and none comes close on software support: Samsung promised six Android upgrades at launch, and its India product page lists security updates until 31 October 2030. It won’t win at heavy gaming, but for daily apps, UPI, video and photos it is the safest long-term choice.

  • Sharp, punchy Full HD+ Super AMOLED display
  • Longest update support in this list
  • Ultra-wide camera and a 13MP selfie camera
  • Tap & Pay with Samsung Wallet
  • No charger in the box
  • Entry-level chip; video tops out at Full HD 30fps
  • Samsung’s own online store no longer sells it

₹13,999 (6GB + 128GB)

#2 Best for gaming and speed

Infinix Note 50x 5G (8GB + 128GB)

  • Dimensity 7300 Ultimate
  • 6.67-inch HD+ 120Hz
  • 5,500mAh · 45W charger in box
  • IP64

If you play a lot of games, or just want the fastest phone you can get for the money, buy this one. Its Dimensity 7300 Ultimate is a clear step above the entry-level chips in the other picks. The box also has a 45W charger, and the phone records 4K video and is rated IP64. What you give up is the screen. It is only HD+, so text and video look softer than on the Samsung or the realme. If you don’t game much, the 6GB + 128GB version for ₹13,499 saves ₹1,500.

  • Most powerful processor in this list
  • 45W charger included; 10W reverse wired charging
  • 2 Android upgrades and 3 years of security updates promised
  • HD+ (1600 × 720) screen at this price
  • No ultra-wide camera

₹14,999 (8GB + 128GB)

#3 Best battery and toughness

realme P3x 5G (6GB + 128GB)

  • 6,000mAh · 45W charger in box
  • IP68 + IP69
  • 6.72-inch Full HD+ 120Hz
  • Dimensity 6400

The P3x combines a 6,000mAh battery with 45W charging, and realme puts the charger in the box. It is rated IP68 and IP69 against water and dust, has a sharp Full HD+ 120Hz screen and costs less than the Samsung. It’s still slim at 7.94mm and 197g. The weak spot is software support. When realme extended updates for its P3 series in August 2025, it left the P3x out, and we couldn’t find an official update promise for this model.

  • 6,000mAh battery (joint biggest here) with 45W charging (joint fastest)
  • Best water and dust rating in this list
  • Full HD+ screen with up to 950 nits peak brightness
  • No official update promise found
  • Memory card shares the second SIM slot
  • Video limited to 1080p

₹12,999 (6GB + 128GB)

#4 Best value under ₹12,500

POCO M7 5G (6GB + 128GB)

  • Snapdragon 4 Gen 2
  • 6.88-inch HD+ 120Hz
  • 5,160mAh · 33W charger in box

For ₹12,499 you get 6GB of RAM, the biggest screen in this list at 6.88 inches, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which handles everyday apps and light gaming. A 33W charger comes in the box, but the phone itself charges at 18W. On Flipkart, some listings have “Locked with Airtel Prepaid” in the name and a different price. Read the full title, and that listing’s terms, before you order.

  • Cheapest way to get 6GB of RAM in this list
  • Large screen for video and reading
  • HD+ screen and only 18W charging
  • Only IP52 splash resistance
  • Launched on Android 14; the reported update promise (2 upgrades, 4 years of security) isn’t on an official POCO page

₹12,499 (6GB + 128GB)

#5 For light use, at the sale price

HMD Vibe 2 5G (4GB + 128GB)

  • Android 16
  • 6,000mAh · 18W charger in box
  • 6.75-inch HD+ 120Hz
  • IP64

This is the newest phone here. It launched in May 2026 with Android 16, and in Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale it is also the cheapest at ₹11,999. That is a sale price, though: HMD’s own store sells this variant for ₹13,999, and Flipkart’s price was higher before the sale. At ₹13,999 the POCO M7 and realme P3x give you more, so buy the HMD only at or near the sale price. The 6,000mAh battery and simple setup suit a parent, a backup phone, or anyone who mostly makes calls, chats and pays by UPI. Gamers and heavy multitaskers should skip it, because its entry-level Unisoc T8200 chip and 4GB of RAM leave little headroom.

  • The only pick that launched with Android 16
  • Big battery, with a charger, case and screen protector in the box
  • 2 years of quarterly security updates promised
  • Entry-level chip and only 4GB RAM
  • Heavy at 210g and 8.6mm
  • ₹11,999 is a sale price; HMD’s own store charges ₹13,999

₹11,999 in sale (4GB + 128GB); ₹13,999 on HMD’s store

Note: The Mivi One 5G went on sale on 8 October 2026 with clean Android 16, but we left it out for now. It is the brand’s first phone, there are no detailed reviews yet, and launch reports disagree on its regular price and screen refresh rate.

How to choose a phone under ₹15,000 in 2026

Expect 2025 models, and check how long updates last

Budget phones got more expensive during 2026. Beebom’s price-hike tracker (updated 14 September 2026) shows the Galaxy M17 5G going from ₹12,499 to ₹16,499, for example, and the vivo T4x from ₹13,999 to ₹16,999. That is why four of our five picks first went on sale in early 2025. An older model is fine as long as it still gets security updates, which matter on a phone you use for UPI and banking.

Samsung lists the F16’s security support until 31 October 2030. Infinix promised three years of security updates from the Note 50x’s March 2025 launch, and HMD promises two years for the Vibe 2. For the realme we couldn’t find any update promise. For the POCO, launch reports in March 2025 cited two Android upgrades and four years of security updates, but we couldn’t confirm that on an official POCO page. Think of both as shorter-term phones.

Check the 5G bands, not the sticker

Every phone here lists two key bands: n78, the main 5G band for Jio, Airtel and Vi, and n28, the 700 MHz band Jio uses to reach further (some brands write it as n28B). Before buying any other phone, find the band list on the brand’s spec page. If 5G still doesn’t appear after you buy, our guide on fixing 5G that isn’t showing covers the settings, plans and bands to check.

RAM, storage and the “virtual RAM” trap

Get 6GB of RAM if you can. 4GB is enough only for light use. Ignore figures for “virtual”, “dynamic” or “extended” RAM, such as realme’s “up to 18GB dynamic RAM” for the P3x. That is storage the phone borrows when it runs short, not real RAM, and it is much slower. All five picks come with 128GB of storage. On the realme, the memory-card slot doubles as the second SIM slot, so you have to choose one or the other.

Count the charger in the price

Samsung doesn’t put a charger in the F16’s box. If you don’t already have a fast charger, add the cost of one to the price. The other four include one: 45W with the Infinix and the realme, 33W with the POCO (though the phone charges at 18W) and 18W with the HMD.

What to ignore

  • Megapixels: every phone here has a 50MP main camera, so the number tells you nothing. Extra 2MP depth or macro lenses add little. An ultra-wide lens (only the Samsung lists one) is the camera extra that actually changes your photos.
  • Inflated MRPs: Flipkart listings often show an MRP far above the usual selling price. The HMD Vibe 2, for example, lists an MRP of ₹19,999 next to an ₹11,999 sale price. Compare selling prices and ignore the “% off”.
  • Bank offers: they only help if you have that exact card, and they change often. Treat them as a bonus, and don’t let one push you into a worse phone.

Thinking about a used phone instead?

₹15,000 can buy a used phone from a higher segment, but only if it passes some basic checks. Before you pay, go through our second-hand phone checklist to verify the IMEI, the account locks and the battery.

Mobivault shop note: Whether you buy in a shop or open a delivery at home, run these checks on the day you get the phone:

  • Make sure the box seal is intact. Then dial *#06# and check that the IMEI matches the one printed on the box and on the bill.
  • Ask for a proper GST bill that shows the date, model and IMEI. You will need it for any warranty claim, so keep it with the warranty card.
  • Go through the box contents against the list on the box, especially the charger on models that come with one.
  • Put your own SIM in, make a call, and look for the 5G icon if you are in a 5G area. Install any system update before you load your apps.

Our pick

Most people should buy the Samsung Galaxy F16 5G (6GB + 128GB, ₹13,999). It is the one phone here that will still be pleasant and secure to use years from now. Choose the Infinix Note 50x 5G for gaming and the realme P3x 5G for battery life and rough use. The POCO M7 5G suits a tighter budget, and the HMD Vibe 2 5G makes sense for light use only at its sale price.

  • Buy the Galaxy F16 if you want the best screen here, Samsung’s service network and security updates until 2030.
  • Skip it if gaming is your priority (get the Infinix), or you want the biggest battery with a charger in the box (get the realme).

FAQ

Which is the best 5G phone under ₹15,000 right now?

For most people it’s the Samsung Galaxy F16 5G (6GB + 128GB), at ₹13,999 on 11 October 2026. Of our picks, it has the best screen and the longest update support. If you care more about speed than the screen, get the Infinix Note 50x 5G.

Is 4GB RAM enough in 2026?

It’s enough for calls, WhatsApp, UPI and YouTube if you keep only a few apps open. If you play games, switch between many apps, or plan to keep the phone for three years or more, get 6GB or more. “Virtual” RAM borrows storage space and is no substitute for real RAM.

Why are most phones on this list from 2025?

Budget phones got more expensive during 2026, and many newer models now cost more than ₹15,000. Our 2025 picks are still sold new, and each Flipkart listing we checked comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty. Update promises are counted from launch, though, so check how much support a model has left.

Will these phones work on Jio and Airtel 5G?

All five list n78, the band Jio, Airtel and Vi use for 5G, and n28, the 700 MHz band Jio uses. You also need 5G coverage where you are, a plan that includes 5G and the right network setting. Our 5G setup guide walks you through it.

Should I wait for a sale or a bank offer?

The prices in this guide are what anyone pays, with no card offers. Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale started on 9 October 2026. If one of these phones gets cheaper with a card you already have, good. Just don’t settle for a weaker phone because it has a bigger discount.
