The short answer
For most people, the POCO C71 (6GB + 128GB, ₹9,999) is the one to buy: it has 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and four years of promised security updates. On a tighter budget, the Moto G05 (4GB + 64GB, ₹7,299) has a bright screen and stereo speakers. Both are 4G phones: we couldn’t find a sensible new 5G phone in stock at a regular price of ₹10,000 or less.
This guide is for anyone with about ₹10,000 for a new phone. That might be a first smartphone for a student, a phone for a parent, or a reliable backup for calls, WhatsApp, UPI and YouTube. Every pick is on sale in India right now, and the regular selling price of the variant we name is ₹10,000 or less.
Here’s how we chose. Specs for the Moto G05 come from Motorola’s India product page. For the POCO C71 we couldn’t find an official India product page, so its specs come from launch reports and the Flipkart listing. Prices come from Flipkart, Motorola’s own store and dated price lists. We also kept in mind the questions people ask at Mobivault, our founder Lokesh Rathore’s phone shop in Bhopal, when they shop at this budget: whether they need 5G, how long the battery lasts, whether a charger is in the box and how long the phone will get updates. We haven’t tested these phones ourselves, so this is a research-based guide.
We checked prices on 11 October 2026. They are regular selling prices, not bank-card or sale offers. Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale started on 9 October 2026, so where a sale price is lower, we mention it separately. Prices may change once the sale ends.

Why this list has only two phones
Phones under ₹10,000 got much more expensive during 2026. Beebom’s price-hike tracker (updated 14 September 2026) blames a global shortage of memory chips. It lists the POCO C75 5G going from ₹8,499 to ₹10,999, the iQOO Z10 Lite from ₹9,999 to ₹11,999 and the Samsung Galaxy M06 5G from ₹9,999 to ₹12,000. Several older 5G models that used to sell under ₹10,000 were simply out of stock when we checked.
What’s left in stock under ₹10,000 is mostly 4G phones, many from little-known brands. We only picked phones from brands you can easily find, with specs we could confirm and a regular price under ₹10,000. Two phones passed. A third candidate, the Ai+ Pulse 2, dropped out because Ai+ raised its regular price to ₹10,999 in August 2026; it’s under ₹10,000 only in the current sale (see the note below our picks). We’d rather give you two honest options than pad the list.

Our picks
#1 Best overall
POCO C71 (6GB + 128GB)
- 6GB + 128GB
- 6.88-inch HD+ 120Hz
- 5,200mAh · 15W charger in box
- 4 years of security updates
This is the easiest phone to recommend at this budget. It has the most memory in this guide, and 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage helps a phone stay usable for longer. You also get the biggest screen here (6.88 inches, 120Hz) and a 15W charger in the box. When it launched in April 2025, POCO promised two Android upgrades and four years of security updates. The Unisoc T7250 is an entry-level chip, though, so expect it to handle daily apps rather than heavy games. If you need to save ₹1,000, the 4GB + 64GB version costs ₹8,999, but the 6GB model is the better buy.
- Most RAM and storage in this guide
- Largest screen here, at 120Hz
- 2 Android upgrades and 4 years of security updates promised
- Dedicated memory-card slot (up to 2TB)
- 4G only, no 5G
- 32MP main camera; video tops out at 1080p 30fps
- Only IP52 splash resistance
₹9,999 (6GB + 128GB)
#2 Best on a tight budget
Moto G05 (4GB + 64GB)
- 6.67-inch HD+ 90Hz, 1,000 nits
- Stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos
- 50MP camera
- 5,200mAh
At ₹7,299 on Flipkart, the Moto G05 costs ₹2,700 less than the POCO C71 (6GB + 128GB) and still covers the basics well. (Motorola’s own store lists it at ₹7,499 but showed it out of stock.) Its screen reaches 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode, the highest figure in this guide, which helps outdoors, and it has Gorilla Glass 3 on top. You also get stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a 50MP main camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a separate memory-card slot. The weak spot is software. Launch reports from January 2025 say Motorola promised two years of security updates, and we found no promise of Android upgrades. Counted from launch, that support runs out around early 2027, so this is a phone for the next year or two, not for five.
- ₹2,700 cheaper than the POCO C71 (6GB + 128GB)
- Brightest screen here on paper, with Gorilla Glass 3
- Stereo speakers and a headphone jack
- Shortest update support here (2 years of security updates from January 2025)
- 10W charger in the box, though the phone supports 18W
- 4G only, 90Hz, and out of stock on Motorola’s own store
₹7,299 (4GB + 64GB)
Need 5G? At a regular price, a new 5G phone now costs a little over ₹10,000. The cheapest one from a major brand that we found in stock was the POCO C75 5G (4GB + 64GB) at ₹10,999 on Flipkart. Its listing includes the n28 and n78 5G bands. If you can stretch further, our guide to the best phones under ₹15,000 has better 5G options.
Want the biggest battery? The Ai+ Pulse 2 (4GB + 64GB) has a 6,000mAh battery, a 120Hz screen, IP64 dust and water resistance and Android 16. It’s ₹9,799 in Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale, but Ai+ raised its regular price from ₹9,999 to ₹10,999 in August 2026, so it’s outside this guide’s budget once the sale ends. If you buy it in the sale, note that Flipkart lists only a 10W charger in the box (launch reports say the phone supports 18W), and that we found no official update promise from Ai+.
Note: The Ai+ Pulse 2 FE launched on 28 September 2026 at ₹9,999 (4GB + 64GB), with a Helio G81 chip, a 120Hz screen, a 5,000mAh battery and Android 16. It was ₹8,999 on Flipkart during the Big Billion Days sale when we checked. We left it out for now because it is brand new, there are no detailed reviews yet, and we found no official update promise.
How to choose a phone under ₹10,000 in 2026
Decide first: 4G now, or stretch for 5G
A 4G phone still handles calls, WhatsApp, UPI and video without trouble. If you live in a 5G area and want faster data, or you plan to keep the phone for several years, it can make sense to spend about ₹1,000 more on a 5G model. If you do, check the brand’s spec page for two bands: n78, the main 5G band for Jio, Airtel and Vi, and n28, the 700 MHz band Jio uses. If 5G still doesn’t appear after you buy, our guide on fixing 5G that isn’t showing covers the settings, plans and bands to check.
Get 128GB of storage if you can
64GB fills up quickly once WhatsApp photos and videos pile up. That’s one reason the POCO C71 (6GB + 128GB) is our top pick. Both phones have a separate memory-card slot, so you can add a card later without losing a SIM slot. Ignore “RAM Boost” or “virtual RAM” figures, such as the Moto G05’s “up to 12GB”. That is storage the phone borrows when it runs short of memory, and it is much slower than real RAM.
Check how long updates last
Security updates matter on a phone you use for UPI and banking. Of our two picks, the POCO C71 has the longer promise: four years of security updates from April 2025. The Moto G05’s two years from January 2025 end much sooner. Before buying any phone at this price, search for the brand’s update promise and count it from the launch date, not from the day you buy.
Look at the charger, not just the battery
Both phones come with a charger, but they differ: 15W with the POCO and 10W with the Moto. A big battery on a slow charger can take a long time to fill. The Moto G05 supports up to 18W, but Motorola’s fine print says you need its TurboPower 20W charger or higher, sold separately, for faster charging.
What to ignore
- Megapixels: a 50MP camera isn’t automatically better than a 32MP one, and extra “AI” or auxiliary lenses on budget phones add little.
- Inflated MRPs: Flipkart listings often show a high MRP next to the selling price. The Ai+ Pulse 2 FE, for example, shows an MRP of ₹16,999 although it launched at ₹9,999. Compare selling prices and ignore the “% off”.
- Bank offers: they only help if you have that exact card, and they change often. Treat them as a bonus, not a reason to pick a weaker phone.
- Unknown brands with big promises: Flipkart’s under-₹10,000 lists include “5G” phones from brands you may never have heard of. Stick to brands with a service centre you can reach.
Thinking about a used phone instead?
₹10,000 can buy a used 5G phone from a higher segment, but only if it passes some basic checks. Before you pay, go through our second-hand phone checklist to verify the IMEI, the account locks and the battery.
Mobivault shop note: Whether you buy in a shop or open a delivery at home, run these checks on the day you get the phone:
- Make sure the box seal is intact. Then dial *#06# and check that the IMEI matches the one printed on the box and on the bill.
- Ask for a proper GST bill that shows the date, model and IMEI. Keep it with the warranty card, because you will need it for any claim.
- When buying online, check the seller’s name and rating on the listing, and make sure it mentions a manufacturer warranty.
- Match the box contents against the list on the box, and check the wattage printed on the charger.
- Put your own SIM in, make a call, check mobile data, and install any system update before you load your apps.
Our pick
Most people should buy the POCO C71 (6GB + 128GB, ₹9,999). It has the most memory and the longest update promise here, plus a big 120Hz screen and a 15W charger in the box. Choose the Moto G05 if you want to spend less and like a brighter screen and stereo speakers. If you need 5G, plan for at least ₹10,999.
- Buy the POCO C71 if you want a phone that stays usable and gets security updates for years, at under ₹10,000.
- Skip it if you need 5G (stretch to the POCO C75 5G or more) or want to spend as little as possible (get the Moto G05).
FAQ
Which is the best phone under ₹10,000 right now?
For most people it’s the POCO C71 (6GB + 128GB), at ₹9,999 on 11 October 2026. Of our two picks, it has more RAM and storage and the longer update promise. To spend less, get the Moto G05 at ₹7,299.
Is there a good 5G phone under ₹10,000?
Not at a regular price, as far as we could find in October 2026. Prices rose this year, and the cheapest 5G phone from a major brand that we found in stock was the POCO C75 5G at ₹10,999. A sale may briefly bring some 5G models under ₹10,000, but check the update promise and the 5G bands before you buy.
Is 4GB RAM enough in 2026?
It’s enough for calls, WhatsApp, UPI and YouTube if you keep only a few apps open. If you switch between many apps or plan to keep the phone for three years or more, get 6GB if your budget allows. “Virtual” RAM borrows storage space and is no substitute for real RAM.
Should I wait for the sale to end?
Prices in this guide are regular prices that anyone pays, with no card offers. Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale started on 9 October 2026. When we checked, it brought the Ai+ Pulse 2 down to ₹9,799 from its regular ₹10,999, while our two picks were at their regular prices. If one of these phones gets cheaper with a card you already have, good. Just don’t settle for a weaker phone because it has a bigger discount.
Is a used phone better than a new one at ₹10,000?
It can be, if you want 5G or a better camera and you can check the phone properly. A new phone gives you a fresh battery, a full warranty and a GST bill. If you go used, follow our second-hand phone checklist before paying.
